The faculty teach and students study without fear of their academic freedom being violated and without fear of any kind of discrimination. These rights are extended to the student and faculty members within the parameters of sound scholarship and within the appropriate framework of Biblical foundations and institutional sphere granted by the Board of Trustees.

Social & Cultural Studies
Overview
The Social and Cultural Studies program has two broad areas of focus. First, it is dedicated to studying public schooling in its broader social, cultural, political, and economic contexts. We are particularly concerned with the impact of globalization, migration and immigration, and the changing political economy. We are also concerned with understanding the role of schooling in sustaining a democratic society in the face of social inequality, economic restructuring, and changing social relations.
Second, Social & Cultural Studies is committed to studying learning and education that take place beyond the borders of regular public schooling—for example, community, labor, and political learning and education that occur in the context of community organizations and social movements, workplaces and labor unions, youth groups, and immigrant centers. We believe that the learning and education that occur in such diverse sites play a critical role in social and cultural transformation, and also help us rethink and re-imagine possibilities for public schooling.
Finally it seeks to provide students with a solid grounding in social theory and qualitative research methods. The program aims to provide a unique space within the university for students and faculty to work together on developing innovative approaches to studying and transforming learning and education, in the broadest sense possible.
Degrees Offered
Bachelor's Degree / Master's Degree / PhD
Cultural Studies
Cultural studies is a new and increasingly influential field of scholarly inquiry.
Broadly speaking, it studies cultural practices of all kinds - mass media, consumer culture, and literary texts - as well as other aspects of everyday life both past and present.
Culture and Communication Studies
The program is based on the links between two intellectual premises: our cultural assumptions inform and shape our ability to communicate; and communication is the process through which culture is created, modified, and challenged. To better understand the relationship between these two ideas, you’ll study communicative and cultural practice from a wide variety of perspectives from across the department.
Arts and Cultural Management
The Arts and Cultural Management will give you the knowledge and skills base you need to pursue careers in the management of the arts and cultural sector.
This vocationally-orientated program delivers transferrable skills you can apply across a broad range of art form contexts including film, theater, dance, music and the visual arts.
